How a hand is counted
1. The shape of the hand
Patterns like all pungs, one suit, or a common hand of all chows. Most hands score one or two of these.
2. Winds and dragons
A pung of dragons, your seat wind or the round's wind adds a faan each. East sitting East in the East round gets 2 for one pung.
3. Flowers
Your own flower or season adds 1. Holding none at all also adds 1, which surprises new players.
4. How you won
Self-drawn, a concealed hand, the last tile or a kong replacement each add a faan. Limit hands skip all this and score the limit.
The calculator picks the way of reading your tiles that scores best, then checks the total against the minimum and limit you've set. Everything runs in your browser, and the hand is kept in the page address so you can copy the link and send it to whoever disagrees with you.
